Ready to Represent, Ready to Serve

About Wylea

I am running for an at-large seat on the Board of Education to bring strategic vision, collaborative spirit, and relentless focus on equity to the table. I believe in transparent leadership, authentic engagement, and policies that reflect the lived experiences of Montgomery County families.

I am rooted in community and committed to change. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I have called Montgomery County home since 1998. My husband and I live in Gaithersburg, where we have raised four children; two proud MCPS graduates and two current high schoolers. My lived experience as a wife, parent, advocate, and community leader fuels my unwavering commitment to ensuring every student in Montgomery County has access to an excellent, equitable education.

Why I’m Running

I am running for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Board of Education because I feel an undeniable sense of urgency, especially in these times. As a mother, wife, and Black woman of strong faith, this decision comes from both my lived experience and my heart. It wasn’t made lightly. I prayed about it, talked it through with my husband, and was encouraged by people I deeply trust and respect.

MCPS can’t do it all alone, they need our community, and I am a convener of people. People who are READY and well equipped to do what is needed; many hands make light work. We have real talent and people who care in our County, and we need to tap into those human resources now more than ever.

Core Principles

  1. Center Community Voice In Decision Making: Move Beyond Listening to Feedback - I want every detail to support success. I believe in shared ownership; this needs to come with educating the community. I will make inclusion practical, removing barriers to participation. I will activate dialogue and not just discussion, including diverse voices and engendering trust.

  2. Advance Equity As a Systemwide Imperative: I lead with a clear moral compass and consistently center justice, access, and belonging. I don’t just talk about equity, I do my best to build the scaffolding for it in terms of paying attention to and calling for policy reform, inclusive logistics, audits, etc.

  3. Scale What Works Consistently and Equitably - We can do better by identifying what’s working, removing barriers to scale, and ensuring every school, family, and educator benefits from proven practices. Scaling what works consistently and equitably means not just celebrating success stories, but turning them into standard practice.

I will earn your vote because I am ready to lead with clarity, warmth, and accountability; I believe accountability is a GOOD word!
My track record speaks for itself; I’m ready to continue to serve all students, and their families, and educators with clarity, compassion, and courage, on a larger scale as an at-large BOE member ensuring that our educational policies reflect the lived realities of our children and their families.

Why will I earn your vote?
