About Wylea
I am rooted in community and committed to change. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I have called Montgomery County home since 1998. My husband and I live in Gaithersburg, where we have raised four children; two proud MCPS graduates and two current high schoolers. My lived experience as a wife, parent, advocate, and community leader fuels my unwavering commitment to ensuring every student in Montgomery County has access to an excellent, equitable education.
-
With over 20 years in the nonprofit sector, I have led initiatives in community engagement, policy advocacy, and operations. As the former Chief Operating Officer and Community Engagement lead for the Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence *BBC), I championed resource equity and student achievement across MCPS. My work continues today through consulting, coaching, and facilitating workshops that empower leaders and organizations to drive systemic change.
-
My leadership spans grassroots organizing and institutional change. I have served as Gaithersburg Cluster Coordinator, currently serve as MCCPTA DEI Committee Member, and NAACP Parent Council Representative, among other roles. My Co- facilitation of Courageous Conversations and equity-centered trainings has helped schools, nonprofits, and corporations build inclusive cultures and amplify community voice.
-
I bring deep expertise in education policy and measurable accountability. In my role with the BBC, I met monthly with MCPS Superintendent Dr. Taylor and regularly advised district and County leaders on strategies that center student outcomes. My work aligns with the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, ensuring that oversight and implementation reflect the needs of our most impacted communities.
-
I am running for an at-large seat on the Board of Education to bring my strategic vision, collaborative spirit, and relentless focus on equity to the table. She believe in transparent leadership, authentic engagement, and policies that reflect the lived experiences of Montgomery County families. My track record speaks for itself; I’m ready to continue to serve all students, and their families, and educators with clarity, compassion, and courage, on a larger scale as an at-large BOE member.
