Why I’m Running
I am running for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Board of Education because I feel an undeniable sense of urgency, especially in these times. As a mother, wife, and Black woman of strong faith, this decision comes from both my lived experience and my heart. It wasn’t made lightly. I prayed about it, talked it through with my husband, and was encouraged by people I deeply trust and respect.
At the core, I believe that representation matters. My lived experience has taught me that it’s not enough to observe from the sidelines, we need to be in the room and standing up for our children, their families, and our educators.
MCPS can’t do it all alone, they need our community, and I am a convener of people. People who are READY and well equipped to do what is needed; many hands make light work. We have real talent and people who care in our County, and we need to tap into those human resources now more than ever.
My Priorities
Advance Equity
As a Systemwide Imperative
With over 20 years in the nonprofit sector, I have led initiatives in community engagement, policy advocacy, and operations. As the former Chief Operating Officer and Community Engagement Lead for the Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence (BBC), I championed resource equity
and student achievement across MCPS.
My work continues today through consulting, coaching, and facilitating workshops that empowers leaders and organizations to drive systemic change.
2. Scale What Works Consistently and Equitably
We can do better by identifying what’s working, removing barriers to scale, and ensuring every school, family, and educator benefits from proven practices.
What I bring to the table is a commitment to lift up what works and make it work for everyone. In every school and every zip code. Not just celebrating success stories but turning them into standard practice. My deep experience in coalition-, cross-sector partnership and results-driven community work has equipped me with bringing people together to build systems that last.
Scaling what works consistently and equitably means not just celebrating success stories, but turning them into standard practice.
3. Center Community Voice In Decision Making: Move Beyond Listening to Feedback
My leadership spans grassroots organizing and institutional change. I have served as Gaithersburg Cluster Coordinator, currently serve as MCCPTA DEI Committee Member, and NAACP Parent Council Representative, among other roles.
My Co- facilitation of Courageous Conversations and equity-centered trainings has helped schools, nonprofits, and corporations build inclusive cultures and amplify community voice.
Why will I earn your vote?
I will earn your vote because I am ready to lead with clarity, warmth, and accountability; I believe accountability is a GOOD word! My track record speaks for itself; I’m ready to continue to serve all students, and their families, and educators with clarity, compassion, and courage, on a larger scale as an at-large BOE member ensuring that our educational policies reflect the lived realities of our children and their families.
